More about Mavs…
Founded in October 2023 by a group who know the world of men’s and mixed netball very well, Thames Mavericks is a team, in every sense of the word. From coaches and umpires to players and supporters, the Mavs family works together to develop themselves, each other and the sport. Netball is a team sport and you can’t ever play the game on your own. We believe in working together, on and off court.
Our goals? Well, they’re simple - to play, train and compete as a club, to celebrate our successes, whether they’re large or small, and to have a great time together as we enjoy the journey.
We’ll be introducing the Mavericks on our social channels, and on our news pages, so you can meet the team. But, if you can’t wait to find out more, come along and meet us and see just what makes us Mavericks.
A great team - just a group of ordinary people achieving extraordinary things.

The basic rules are exactly the same, the only difference comes, as you might expect, with the make up of players on the court. A mixed team needs a minimum of two, and a maximum of three, non-female players on court at any one time. The usual rules are ‘one in each third’ but some tournaments and leagues adjust these slightly to make things easier for teams. National league matches and the national championships state clearly where players can be and managing this is another level of challenge for coaches!

Yes, there are! There are more men’s and mixed social leagues popping up (and we have a great mixed social league near us!) and there are also national leagues and national championships too. We also arrange lots of friendlies with other mixed and men’s clubs that we know so we’ve always got games in the diary to help us work toward league matches and championships.

There is! The England Men’s and Mixed Netball Association (EMMNA) is the national association here in the UK. It works with England Netball but works to develop the sport and EMMNA also arranges national leagues and championships and leads the national performance programmes for men’s and mixed netball too.

Yes! And a couple of Mavericks are involved with these teams (yes, we’re very proud!). The Thorns are the senior men’s team while the Trailblazers are the U25 men’s squad and there’s an England mixed team too. All these teams train and play regularly and, as the sport grows, you’ll definitely see them more and more in the future.
