Autumn Update
Well, if we thought that Autumn would be quiet for the Mavs, we were mistaken! It might have been a busy for months after August’s National Championships but we’ve had an absolute blast. Here’s a quick update of everything we’ve been up to this Autumn…
At the end of September, a team headed over to take part in Kraken’s mixed tournament and Akeem, Sam, Jazz, Evan, Jacob, Vic and Sophie had a great day of netball. We took a number of wins, a draw, a couple of tight losses and we racked up the highest number of ‘goals scored’ across the tournament.
In mid-October, we took two teams to a mixed tournament in Wokingham and had another fabulous day out with another ten teams. There were fantastic Mavs debuts for Jacob C, Edd and Meg plus lots of laughs and loads of matchplay for everyone. We all got a run out with our mash-up lineups and Mavs II were unbeaten, finishing up as overall winners with Mavs I in second spot.
At the end of October, we hosted the first MUKS tournament that saw Mavs, Unicorns, Kraken and Surrey Hurricanes come together for a super competitive tournament. Mavs I finished unbeated whilst Mavs II picked up a win and some very solid results - what more could you ask for in an afternoon with some of our netballing besties?
On 9th November, we took our men’s team (plus a couple of friends!) to the Loughborough Lightning Men’s Tournament. This was Lightning’s inaugural men’s tournament and we’re thrilled to have been a part of it. There were some incredible performances from the Mavs who picked up wins against eventual winners Knights Netball and also against a classy Stunts/Fury composite that was packed with excellent players. We were just pipped to the final by a brilliant Norfolk United but we’re very happy to have taken third place in such illustrious company.
In mid-November, the whole Mavs family were bursting with pride as two Mavs were part of the UK Armed Forces honour guard at the England/Jamaica internationals. We were all watching as Kayleigh and Akeem stood on court and we were so lucky that the brilliant Hayley Bavin was there to capture the moment.
On 17th November, we made up a team with our friends from Unicorns NC at the Stunts Mixed Tournament. After a great morning of netball, ‘Mavicorns’ made it into the top half for the Cup competition and this was a brilliant challenge for our composite team. Big shout-out to Mav Vic for playing every single minute!
Our last external fixture of the year took place on 20th November when headed to High Wycombe for an evening of matchplay with our friends at Clan Netball. Two Mavs squads got valuable court time and this was a truly friendly game with so much brilliant netball. We can’t wait to do it all again in early February.
