February Review
It might be the shortest month of the year but it’s been a super busy four weeks for the Mavs. Here’s a whistle-stop rundown of what we’ve been up to…
We started the month at EMMNA’s Men’s Winter Championship in London and had a fantastic day. We finished second in our group in the morning’s round robin, with the best goal difference, losing only to the team that finished above us by a single supershot! A tough draw in the quarter final against London Giants’ top team saw us out but we met our goals for the day and learned a lot.

On February 4th, we got a call with an offer you just can’t say no to - were we able to send players for a training match against Uganda the next day? Of course, the answer was a big YES and so Tash Englefield, Jacob Kirby, Chay February, Craig Lenane, Joe White, Aaron Rowledge and Connor Sharod-Southam took to court against the world number six as part of their preparation for the Nation’s Cup. They were joined by some friends from other EMMNA clubs and just happened to take the win!
A quick dash back down the M40 set us up for an evening with our friends at Clan Netball. Our mixed squad took to court first and bagged a solid win before our men’s team (including Jacob, Chay, Craig, Joe, and Connor who’d dashed back from London!) secured the victory against Clan’s senior team. It was great evening and thank you, as always, to Clan for being such brilliant hosts.
The following weekend saw a group of Mavs head to London to support the Roses in their Nation’s Cup final and obviously, we were there in time to also cheer Kayleigh Briercliffe who was part of the Armed Forces banner party ahead of the games. Mavs in the crowd and on court!
We had another mid-week trip around the M25 the following week as a group of Mavs went to play London Pulse U17. This was another fantastic opportunity and a great experience for everyone. We’re looking forward to another date with Pulse in late March.
New Head Coach Rachel Mann led her first club sessions this month and is already having a big impact. It’s great to see ever-increasing numbers of players at training and, as we prepare to move into our new ‘home’ for training and league matches, we can’t wait for what’s to come. Next stop… EMMNA National League!
