Mavs March Update
Well, this month has absolutely flown by so here’s a round-up of the month from the Mavs. There’s been a lot going on and this is a whistlestop tour through out month…
We started the month with our friends at Army Netball, helping them prepare for the first ever men’s netball match at the Inter-Services netball championship
It was a great opportuntity to have another run-out against the Army team and be a part of their prep for this historic event. Having men’s netball take centre-stage in a showpiece evening game during the Inter-Services championship was a big step forward and…
… we were there, both on court and off! Two Mavs, Craig Lenane and Doug McKay, were part of the RAF team with Craig having the honour of captaining the side. Connor, Jacob, Tam and Jessie were also there supporting and Tam, with her EMMNA Committee hat on, was also involved in choosing the Player of the Match. It was a fantastic event so roll on next year!
EMMNA National League kicked off and we headed to Worcester for our first match against Kraken.
Two teams made the trip, Mavs I and Mavs II with Mavs I playing our first ever league match. Mavs II then played a friendly against Kraken and it was a great afternoon of netball. Mavs I just lost out to a really well-drilled Kraken squad but the highlight of the afternoon was seeing a number of new players make their Mavs debut. Mavs II took the win in their match before everyone went for well-deserved pizza! In the league game, Natalie Stacey took the Player of the Match accolade whilst Tamryn Settle picked up the same award for Mavs II.
And to round-up the rest of our news…
We’re thrilled to have been sponsored by Emoji Media for the season. We can’t thank them enough for their support and we’ll proudly wear our brand new kit with their logo front and centre. Kit reveal coming soon…
We’ve also teamed up with Hayley Bavin Photography and Hayley will be with us at training and matches over the coming months to capture all the action.
Coach Tam featured on Our Netball Stories and Jacob was in the England Netball magazine when they covered last year’s England U23 trip to Singapore.
Mavs also haven’t yet lost a match in the Reading mixed league! And, when a recent match was called off due to bad weather, the team took on a local pub quiz instead. Competitive? Us?!
