Superleague Curtain-Raiser

Yesterday was a big day for the Mavs Men’s team as they travelled to Manchester to take on Spartans as the curtain-raiser for Manchester Thunder’s Superleague semi-final.

Jacob, Joe, Craig, Evan, Connor and Nardus were joined by England Trailblazers/U19s Jay and Toby Herbert (who’ll be with us at Nationals in August) and also by Kraken’s Ben Leighton plus bench staff Tam, Jessie and Hannah for what was an incredible experience.

Playing in an arena setting, with spectators, was unforgettable, as was running out into the Belle Vue Arena with fireworks, lights and music. We’re still pinching ourselves that this happened and thank you so much to Spartans and Thunder for inviting us to be part of such a big day.

The match itself was fantastic and Mavs really took it to Spartans, particularly in the first half of the game where it was 33-25 at half time, having gone goal-for-goal in the first quarter. Spartans showed their experience and ran out 69-44 winners but we’re so happy that all the Mavs got great court time and could enjoy this experience together. When we started out in November, who'd have thought we’d be here?! Wow!
